Industrial inspections in sectors such as oil & gas, petrochemicals, and pharmaceuticals often expose workers to hazardous, confined, or elevated environments, while requiring significant time, coordination, and cost due to complex safety and permit procedures. Robotic systems have the potential to eliminate these safety risks, reduce infrastructure needs, and automate data collection, thereby improving efficiency and consistency.
The FA-EMAT project will develop a new link for the Float Arm robot, with integrating a new electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) that detects corrosion or damage without the need for surface preparation and improve user experience by integrating the Jarvis digital twin tool. The prototype will be validated at BASF Antwerp, with end-users using the new system in real environment targeting a 40% reduction in inspection time and 30% cost savings, while significantly enhancing safety and inspection consistency.
Industrial inspections in oil & gas, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical plants often expose workers to hazardous, confined, and hard-to-reach areas, requiring costly scaffolding, permits, and lengthy coordination. FA-EMAT addresses this gap with Hibot’s lightweight, modular Float Arm capable of reaching confined or elevated areas, enabling safe, semi-autonomous inspections in complex environments – eliminating most safety risks, cutting setup time and cost, and standardizing data quality.
